We are located in the central Piedmont of North Carolina, near the
Raleigh / Durham / Chapel Hill “Triangle” region.
Our studio plans adopt a single room approach, with the main room being
approximately 700 square feet in size with a 12’ ceiling. Our goal is to provide a space where
musicians can comfortably play and record together, as a band, in the same room.
The shell was built in early 2006, and while interior construction
hasn’t yet begun, we’re already
doing useful work. Great Big Gone’s first
studio album, “Threadbare Heart”, was recorded here and released on the 4th of July 2008,
The Second String Band
has recorded demos here and will begin working on an album this fall, and progressive rock band
Kill Tim’s Grass are currently mixing and
recording final overdubs for their upcoming album here.
Our equipment includes a Mackie 24.8 console and HR824 monitors housed
in a custom desk, an Alesis HD24 recorder, and a DAW running XP Pro and Adobe Audition with a Mark of
the Unicorn 828mk2. We have several
high-quality outboard microphone preamps from Hamptone and
Auble Systems, as well as a custom LA-2A
Leveling Amplifier. The mic locker includes Audio Technica, Shure & Oktava condensers,
a pair of Beyer M260 ribbons, an EV RE-20, and a selection of Shure dynamics.
