The Second String Band
Progressive acoustic music, mixing up folk,
bluegrass, blues and country pop with tasteful picking and sweet harmony vocals. I play fiddle and
various mandolins and sing harmony and occasional lead vocals. Information and sample songs are
available on the Second String Band website.
Dubbed “the best band that never made a record” by one
of their fans, the band is currently selecting songs for their first album from their extensive catalog
of original material, and plan to begin recording it this fall at Cat’s Away.
Great Big Gone
Comprised of former members of acclaimed alt-country powerhouse
The Brown Mountain Lights, Great Big Gone serves up a twangy blend of electrified porch picking, finger licking, roots
rocking, western swinging, honky tonking Americana all garnished with a pinch of cajun. I play fiddle and mandolins, and
sing harmony and occasional lead vocals.
The band released its first album, “Threadbare Heart”,
on July 4th of 2008. It was recorded here at Cat’s Away and mastered by Brent Lambert at Kitchen Mastering in Carrboro.
See the
Great Big Gone website for more details.
Kill Tim’s Grass
Instrumental progressive rock by bassist Paul Kollar, drummer Josh
Feldman, and guitarist Dave Griffith, with yours truly contributing some violin and additional keyboard parts.
Paul Kollar and I are completing
their upcoming album “Lizard Ignition”
here at Cat’s Away, recording additional overdubs and doing the final mixes.
Their MySpace page has some sample tracks and early rough mixes.
Matt & Miner
An acoustic duo featuring guitar, fiddle, banjo & mandolin.
A little of everything, from folk to blues to country to bluegrass to traditional English and Irish ballads and drinking
songs.
Cromagnatism
Matt Mikula’s electric band. They’ve recorded an
album at Electric Daveyland studio to which I contributed a few violin & mandolin parts and some harmony vocals and
arrangements.
Hollis Brown / Cardinal Strings
Best known for her incendiary electric violin
work with The Ozone Quartet, Hollis plays and
records many styles of music and teaches privately. We occasionally perform together as a violin duo,
and Hollis also performs with a variety of other ensembles. See the
Cardinal Strings website for details and
booking information.
